Koni strut woes continued Posted by ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ryan) on Tue, 27 Nov 2012 16:28:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This is an update on my previous post. I'm hoping that perhaps someone can shed some light on the subject and help me make sense of this.
Here goes: 02 Viggen, previous owner had installed Koni adjustables. I disassemble the suspension to replace a bad strut mount. The new Uro brand strut mount from Eeuroparts does not fit over the shaft of the Koni strut. I measure and it is roughly 0.55"/14mm (the Koni shaft is 0.625"). Nick Taliaferro confirmed that all Koni's for the OG 9-3's have 14mm shafts. Trusting this, I figure somehow the car has the wrong struts in it, and the original strut mounts were modified (enlarged) to accommodate the larger shaft. I order new struts, and am waiting for them to show up so I can finish. In the meantime, I was able to get the retaining collar off and pull out the Koni..... IT'S THE CORRECT PART. What the F___??????? Did I just order brand new expensive struts which are identical to my existing expensive struts, and both of which won't fit my new strut mounts? Also, when I mention the "shaft", I am referring to the necked down portion that fits into the strut mount.
