I’m posting this for a co-worker. 1998 900 auto with 2.3L N/A & 135K miles.
She has a leaking distributor, a bulging upper radiator hose and a fault in the coolant overflow tank sensor or wiring. For the distributor & upper hose she is getting a quote of $872 (Chicago prices with $300 for the rebuilt distributor but she doesn’t know the labor involved, the shop rate or the cost of the hose).
How much labor time is reasonable for the distributor?
How much labor time is reasonable for the hose & sensor?
Since they are draining the coolant for the hose & sensor should she proactively have the thermostat replaced, (she’s had the car since 35K miles and hasn’t replaced it in the 100K miles she’s had it)? What’s reasonable time to add on for this?
On a side note, she tells me a relative of hers who works for Net Jets (a Berkshire Hathaway Co) says the CEO drives "the same car as her" (or at least did) a high mileage ’98 900 turbo that he’s had for a long time… born from Jets…
