I installed new rotors (eBay) and Hawk HPS pads on the front. I've done lots of brake work, so I'm confident that I did everything correctly. But I know that Saabs have their quirks, so maybe I goofed.
After doing the recommended bedding in procedure, the brakes were putting off that good, hot break smell.
Today, I took the car to work, but noticed a pretty significant degree of brake drag and some rotational scraping noise. I figured the new pads and the rotors were just learning how to play nice.
On the highway, I really felt like the car was being held back. The drag was quite noticeable.
Fast forward to driving home and jacking the car up. The left front wheel spins and produces the scraping sound and doesn't spin freely at all. The right wheel spins more freely, but still seems a bit draggy, but makes no sound.
Next, with the car jacked up, I put it in first gear to just see what might be going on. Going into gear, the engine speed drops because of the drag.
The left front wheel is struggling to spin. The right is spinning much faster. Eventually, the right front just grinds to a halt. It will only go with more throttle.
When driving, I had noticed that the scraping sound did not change when the brakes were applied. Almost like a dust shield had gotten bent or something.
Looking at the calipers, the only thing that looks suspicious to me is that there is not much clearance between the outer edge of the rotor and the caliper. It is quite possible that the rotor is scuffing the interior of the caliper.
Anyone have any other ideas about what I should look at?
