These cars are now starting to get old and it is few that haven't start to leak yet either from 5th bow pistons or main stack pistons.
It's a delicate and cumbersome task trying to advice a customer in replacing one leaking piston or all in one swoop or one leaking line or all. Or tell them to forget about the conv top and drive the car as a hardtop or sell it.
You have 5 pistons in all and about 10-12 lines going back and forth between the pump and pistons.
Replacing all would probably set you back some $3-4000.00 all depending on the shop and what part source they use so that pretty much makes it not feasible compared to the value of the car.
Replacing just one piston or one hose and you may have to come back over and over doing one here and one there over the years so as I said, it is a really difficult task to advice on.
What I have tried lately is to use a different mix of fluid on the leaking ones to see if I can slow down the leak to manageable levels using regular ATF fluid and Lucas transmission leak stop additive.
So far it has worked ok but not with 100% success.
At least the fluid is a little bit less than using the "fantastic" Saab elixir.
