Don't waste your money on an aftermarket IDM, the OEM Saab unit is only $437. There is a reason they give a lifetime warranty, you will need it over and over again. They don't however pay for towing and being displaced while waiting on a replacement. Have a client who has now had his vehicle towed in three times with a red aftermarket IDM failure now, once after only 2 weeks of him replacing the original unit that lasted 6 years. Seemingly each time "it cant be the IDM, I just replaced it last year again" puts him broke down on the side of the road. Each time he towed the vehicle home from the shop as I refuse to install his new aftermarket replacements.
Replaced an engine two years ago on a 9-5 with an '03 9-5 LPT that had an aftermarket IDM installed. Driven by an older lady, two pistons had cracked. Checking more into the IDM once replaced, I noted it did not pickup ANY knocks or misfires when viewed on the Tech 2. I suspect the aftermarket IDM caused the pistons to crack (only 1% airmass deviation, no DTCs)
The aftermarket units give ZERO warning of failure, no check engine light, nothing. The newer SEM units usually give you a CEL warning first. Typically have a 9-3 or 9-5 towed in twice a month with a defective aftermarket IDM. Theres a reason the cheap ones are cheap and the original units are more expensive. Just my $0.02.
