After taking that picture, I hosed down the entire passenger side of the engine with cleaner and got it shiny. Within less than 20 miles, the small pool of oil had returned and it was trickling down the timing cover again. It's definitely pooling under the #1/#2 intake runner, a couple cm inboard from the timing chain tensioner.

As far as I know, this car has never had a head gasket done. It was purchased in '07ish with 80kish on the odo, and I think it's unlikely it was done before 80k.

I have the car over the weekend, so I'll put some miles on it and try and recreate the pool. ;)
