Thanks Anders. The pictures in that thread were much better. In your photo, the marks look lined up to me. The other thread clearly shows them off by a bit. I am going to give this one more shot (after it warms up from below zero temps in my shop).
Follow up question: What would a loose valve cover cause for symptoms? I ask because after I put all the bolts in the valve cover yesterday, it seemed to change the idle speed by about 1k rpms. I unplugged the battery to reset the computer and it went back to normal. When testing all my timing scenarios I was only putting 4 bolts in the cover for time reasons. Maybe this was enough to cause it to not run right when in fact I had the timing correct at least once. Maybe Im just imagining things too :)
Anders, you are one of the reasons I still drive a Saab. Because of all the good advice you give to DIYers like myself. You are a gentleman and a saint.
