2000 9-3 base model 152,000 miles
Recently, my 9-3 began to have intermittent stumbling/no starting issues. It would always start cold, but the warm start was unpredictable. Once running, it would stumble or die at low rpm, but if I kept the rpms up I could drive all day.
It died on me several times, but only twice was I in between home and my destination. Both times, t would crank and crank with no start. And both times it started right up when I sprayed starter fluid in the throttle body.
Well, I was unsure whether it was the CPS or the fuel pump. The no warm start made me think CPS, but that didn't make sense with the starter fluid fix.
I pulled the codes, and it was the one for CPS out of range. So I figured itS at least the CPS and changed it. That was it. Its running fine now.
SO, FYI, a bad CPS can seem a lot like a bad fuel pump.
Also, I was kind of dreading the CPS project based on posts here about what a bear it is. It's not that bad at all. I got to it from underneath with the car on ramps. Took maybe an hour working leisurely.
One thing I will say is that the Torx bolt on my 2000 9-3 base model is a T-30. Lots of posts on this site say 27 and one mysteriously says 27.5 (something I'm not sure even exists but maybe it's just rare).
Again, on my car it's a T-30. I used the T-27 on blind faith and dang near stripped the bolt before figuring out that something wasn't right. SO there may be different size bolts out there... keep an open mind.
