I don't have an answer to your question but am posting to say you are not alone.
My '99 9-3 has Ate rear calipers that look identical to what was on the front of my old '69 VW Type 3. Obviously a 30 year old design and the weak point of my Saab, IMO.
My rear calipers have frozen twice due to the heavy use of salt here. Both times I've installed rebuilt calipers. I'm getting about 5 years out of them before they freeze so my luck seems better than yours.
I now have a front caliper that has started on occasion to stick enough that I can smell the pad getting hot. Looks like it's time for rebuilt calipers on the front, but I don't feel too bad about that as they are original with 146K miles.
