Finally warm enough to work on replacing my oil pan. It had a small crack develop after the drain plug was overtightened. Wasn't losing that much oil, and I did some light exterior patching as a holdover. I have been looking over some FAQ's online, and it doesn't seem like it will be too bad barring any unforeseen issues with things like stuck and rusted hardware. I'm already planning for a long soak with some pb blaster to get everything loosened up. As such, I have a few questions.
1) Any issues with the cheaper oil pans that rule them out against some of the more expensive options? Seems to be a large discrepancy of prices and its hard to narrow it down to just one.
2) Can anyone clarify some of the torque specifications? I have read that the oil pan bolts themselves are torqued to 11 ft/lbs, but any idea for the subframe bolts? (I imagine pretty tight).
3) Use of thread locker seems to be mixed. Is the "blue" locker safe to use on reassembly?
4) Anything else to do while I have the oil pan off? I have read about replacing some of the o-rings and of course checking for sludge issues.
That's about all I can think of at the moment. I'll update if I come up with anything else. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you!
