I expected to find what you described, a shrunken sliver of the old thick O-ring, but the end of the tube was bare and nothing in the mating bore either. The O-ring was probably removed by the same person who installed the Autolite sparkplugs I just discovered beneath the DIC/IDM (TK3.7C with a late 2008 build date). Everywhere I look on this car I find cheap/non-specified parts installed.
Eventually everything will be right again.
More thunderstorms forecast for today so the convertible is still parked. Bummer.
