Soft engine knock when warm

Well, our '99 9-3SE is up to 238K miles. We give it only synthetic oil with changes every 4K. Old oil has looked perfect during every change, clean and maple-syrup colored.
For the last few thousand miles we've been hearing a low-pitched, quiet knock after the engine has warmed up fully. The engine is quiet as new when cold started.
Where should I start looking? Should I start worrying?
Thanks.
