Hi Fred,
Do you know what type of engine you have now? You can easily check this with this website: http://saabvin.com/, by filling in your VIN the website gives you information about the type of engine in your car (but also information about model, body type, gearbox plant and market).
Looking at the MY of your 9-3 and the 200 BHP, I think that your engine is the B204R type (does it have the red DIC?), but Please check if this is correct.
Information found on wikipedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_H_engine):
The B204 (2.0) engine was available with natural aspiration in 900, 9000 and 9-3 in the form of 2.0i (B204i), with a low pressure turbo in the form of 9000 and 9-3 2.0t (B204E) or Saab 900 and 9-3 2.0T (B204L). B204R was briefly available in the 1999 9-3 Aero (U.S. market 'SE') model. B204 was in production in the Saab 9-3 until 2000, when it was replaced by B205.
Theoretically I assume that a B204L (from a NG900 Turbo, 185BHP) should fit. However I do not know if gearbox and ECU from your engine do fit on the B204L.
Here in Europe, I have seen that the 2.3 engines (B234 series) are also installed as a replacement engine of the B204. It should work but again, I do not know what work has to be done for getting it worked.
Perhaps another one of our Saabnet members/visitors does know more about this....
Best regards,
Dennis
