ABS Controller throwing codes

I did a search on this and think I understand the issue, but I want to be sure I have it right.
Car: '99 9-3SE 5sp, 245K miles.
Yesterday the instrument panel lights for ABS and brakes went on, just as I crested the mountain. The brakes felt fine both in performance and pedal feel. A little while later, while coasting downhill in neutral, the engine stalled. The stalling repeated 3 times since then, all while coasting in neutral at various speeds.
Today while wife drove car, CEL threw 0502 and 0507 codes.
It sounds like the ABS control is going, and I need to send it to BBA. My questions are:
1. Exactly which model of ABS unit is this so I can order the correct one? It looks like the part number would be on a label under the unit, which I can't see. Is it the 5.3 (pn 273 004 578) or 5.4 (pn 273 004 223)?
2. Can we drive the car without the unit until it is returned? If so, do I need to do any special prep or take any special precautions while using it?
Did I miss anything? Thanks.
