I find it's actually better to replace it {the cam plug seal} with the valve cover off. Better long-term results anyways.
This Also requires that you remove the end-cap, and those T40H (security torx) bolts can bee very tight some times.
Once you get this far it is ideal to apply some permatex 518 "gasket maker" around the outsides of the end-plug. To ensure that it will not begin seeping anytime soon.
Then re-install the cam-cap and continue with valve-cover reseal (new gasket set, etc)
DO NOT. Use silicon around the valve cover gasket.
DO torque all the bolts to spec in sequence.
Tip: you can use a bit of super glue to hold the new valve cover gasket in place while you are flipping it over to re install on the engine. This will help to prevent it from falling out.
