Finding A/C Leak

'99 9-3 SE, 248K miles. Now that it's hot out, I know the AC system has a major leak. It wouldn't hold refrigerant after recharging it with a large can. Pressure back to zero within the day.
Budget is tight. I'm guessing a shop would cost nearly a grand to diagnose and fix?
I'd like to find the leak cheaply if possible, because maybe there is a simple part replacement I could do. Does the method of illuminating the system with a black light really work? If so, would a $10 light from Fleabay work or do I need a specially high-quality lamp?
Thanks.
