This probably my biggest issue about these cars. Mine was hard for a long time. It liked to grind and stuff. All forward gears were fine. Turned out to be the clutch. Got that fixed and about a year later it started to get hard to get into reverse again. Clutch is fine. Motor mounts were replaced and linkage adjusted. Still hard. Several mechanics finally came to the conclusion the the shift linkage inside the transmission was bent and unserviceable. The damage was probably caused by 15 years of fighting to get this car into reverse. Solved the problem by replacing the transmission with another used one.
