My daughter's 96 900s conv stalled yesterday as she was turning into a gas station, (she swears it wasn't out of gas). After pushing it out of the roadway toa safe place we cranked the engine a few times, it turns over well but will not start. We put five gallons of gas into it bringing the needle to jus under a half tank. We cranked the engine again and still would not start. On the advice of a local saab guru, I disconected the air intake baffle from the air filter housing and sprayed some starter fluid into the baffle as the engine was cranked. The car started and stayed running as long as we kept spraying the starter fluid. We had it towed home and now I am trying to find the problem. I read extensively the posts on this BB regarding no starts. Here is what I have so far:
1. Has gas in the tank.
2. I removed the rear seat and cranked the engine, listening for the fuel pump, don't hear it running. The tachometer needle does not move when cranking the engine.
3. I replaced all four spark plugs just because they looked worn, plugs were dry when I pulled them.
4. There is voltage to the primary side of the fuel pump fuse momentarily when cranking the engine. (the 2 second thing)
5. Checked the fuse with an ohm meter, fuse is good
6. Jumperd the load side of the fuel pump fuse (with the fuse removed) to a known good supply side of an ajoining fuse. Verified voltage present on fuel pump fuse supply side. Could not hear the fuel pump running, cranked the engine several times, still no start.
7. Ordered a Chiltons 93Oct-98 manual from Amazon, couldn't find a Bently manual.
8. Sitting here thnking about what to next... any Ideas would be greatly apreciated.
PS. When I first cranked it this morning it souded like some cylinders fired very breifly, the starter fluid evaporates to quickly to stiil be there. Hmmm.....
