Pedal clank when releasing clutch

My clutch pedal makes a distinct, metallic clank noise as my foot comes off the pedal. I was nearly certain that the pedal pad was loose, but it is solidly attached. So, I suspect the clank is coming from the arm of the pedal hitting something, maybe up under the dash somewhere.
Anyone experienced this and figured out a fix?
