Me I like the performance!!! That said, vehicle performance potential is nothing if the idiot behind the wheel cann't use it. I can keep up with lesser driver's in moderately "better" cars with my little 900s because I have a better sense of what my vehicle can do and what it feels like when I am doing it (on a track in controlled environments).
My $0.02 is that everyone should attend a performance driving school, the BMW car club hold them all over the country. You will learn a lot about how YOUR car responds to different types of input, especially at and near the limit. Even more important is that you will learn a LOT of skills dealing with car controll, thus making you a better driver. Maybe these skills will save your life some day, because you will be able to react with less panic and a more in touch feel with the car.
Preaching done. And to think this started out as a one line message.
