Some OBD-2 diagnostic instruments not only retrieve OBD-2 codes and reset them, but also allow checking engine parameters like short and long term fuel trim, which would indicate if running lean or rich compared to air mass meter inputs. These instruments also check engine coolant temp, oxygen sensor voltage, air mass meter flow, and other parameters. Had a recent case of low turbo boost and stutter on a T-7 car that was caused by leakage through turbo blow off valve. Oil from valve leakage caused vacuum hose to leak between valve and solenoid valve on firewall. Air leakage showed up as small + percent on long-term fuel trim.
