I did speaker's in my son's 2001 vert back in December. I bought a set of Kicker 41DSC654 6.5" two-way speakers. The screw holes don't all line up to the mounting bosses on the rear interior panels, but 3 out of 4 is good enough. The vert came with the regular factory sound system so there are no speakers in the doors, just the rear and the smaller dash speakers. I ended up using self-tapping screws to mount the speakers in the doors since, again, the Kicker frame doesn't match the factory mounting bosses. The factory wiring loom has the door speaker cabling so it was just a matter of looking up the wiring chart in the WIS to get the color codes. If you need the color codes, I can dig them out of the WIS.
I replaced the head-end with a 2-Din JVC unit since it was cheap and the CD player was going on the old unit. Wiring is simple with a cabling kit. The end result was a sound system tailored for a bunch of kids that listen to everything loud with the top down. It's OK, but not anything like the factory H-K system in my 9-5.
