That's a tough call because they might be right or you might be in for a lot of wasted labor just to find out they were wrong.
Today's engines are very sensitive and they barely hold any compression unless the ring land is filled with oil holding the ring out during the compression stroke.
I have seen many engines loose compression by cylinder wash down syndrome. Too much gasoline washing away the oil film because the engine did not fire up right away. Volvo much worse than Saab but also seen Chrysler, Jaguar and BMW.
If you don't want to chance it you would have to introduce more oil and hope it finds its way behind the piston rings and see if you can build up some compression.
It could also be a valve problem and if so you would have to do a leak down test to find it.
