I recently replaced the tires on my Viggen. I was *SURE* that I had 225/45/17s on for ~8 years and didn't even check. I ordered them again, got them installed and then clay bared the car to give it a good wash for the first time ever (I'm embarrassed!).

I then notice stone chips on the bottom part of the doors and they have an angle pointing upward which I suspect is caused from stones being thrown upwards by the tires. I then check my old tire and they were 215s! I was relieved. However, if with 215s I'm having this issue, what will the 225s do?! I really really wish I had checked before buying. I value the paint *way* more than tires, so I'd consider keeping the 225s in the back and replacing the front ones with 215s.

Problem is, even with the 215s this was an issue. What gives? I notice the edge at the rear door that faces the front of the car to have significant chips. I'd consider putting on some 3M protective tape to mitigate this issue....the car only as 45k miles and it isn't looking all too pretty (not *that* many, but enough).

Could it be a quirk with *my* car where the wheels are slightly offset? Wish the mudflaps took care of this...

Thoughts appreciated. I don't want this to continue so I may replace the front tires in a year regardless of them being brand new. However, there's something that needs fixing here otherwise it'll get worse, even with 215s. Experiences? I'm thinking 3M tape is the only option...

Thanks,
bender
