Why is my transmission different?

2001 93 base model, 5-speed manual
After reading many postings on how to drain/replace gearbox oil I'm attempting to put some fresh Redline MTL in mine. However, I'm finding some differences with my transmission and I'm wondering what the heck is going on: my filler port on top is an 8mm hex (instead of the 24mm bolt that I've read about) and the drain hole can be accessed just fine without cutting down my hex wrench--it's still a close fit to the subframe, but there is enough clearance.
Any ideas why this transmission is different than most others? I just bought this car and don't have complete service records, so could this be a gearbox from a different Saab model?
Thanks in advance.
David
