Spontaneous Side Airbag Deployment...seat swap?

Hi,
2001 9-3 Convertible.
This was roughly a month ago. Turned on my car, passenger's side airbag went off. Would not recommend this experience pre-coffee!
Trying to figure out how to deal with this. My gut says the car is so old there is no chance GM will want to hear about it, and Saab is a dead brand. There are no open recalls on the VIN. It being a 16 year old vehicle from a defunct brand I would suspect going through insurance would wind up having the car totaled and a mark against me when I go to insure a new car. I think this narrows it down to swapping in a replacement seat.
So, can anyone with experience chime in on the difficulty? Is this something I can handle in an afternoon? Should I be having my mechanic do it instead? Am I ridiculous for considering continuing to use the car?
Cheers
-EM
