If it were me, I'd simply switch to the larger filter for 10k mi. When I was running several years of UOAs I tried a variety of different oversized filters to see if they affected to results. I saw no measurable difference in contaminants between the 'basic' or 'premium' filters. I like the standard-grade Purolator filters, and recently discovered the red-label Carquest filters are built by Purolator and are identical to theirs for a little bit less money.
If you're adding 8oz every 1k mi, then you're replacing more than half of the oil in 10k mi. My guess is that if 7,500 mi UOAs look good, then you probably have the potential to go far beyond 10k mi OCIs. My '99 9-3 (B204L) didn't require any oil between OCIs, so swapping the larger filter at 5k mi gave me the chance to get some fresh oil in there. My current '02 9-3 (B205R) needs regular top-ups, so I switched from 5W-40 to Mobil 1 'High Mileage' 10W-40. It has similar (dual-rated) additives to the 5W-40, but a little better viscosity for a drippy turbo. I live in Colorado and can use this all winter. My '02 uses about 4oz every 1k mi with this slightly heavier oil.
