The flow is pretty straightforward I think. There are suction hoses before the turbo (large diameter) and at the intake manifold (small diameter). The large diameter acts directly on the oil filler tube, and indirectly (via the separator) on the valve cover breather. The small diameter acts directly on the valve cover. If the check valve in the small diameter hose fails, you get this scenario quickly. I don't think the other two check valves handle enough pressure, or handle it often enough, to create a mess, but there are only three check valves, check them all. :)
If you clean it up, how quickly does the mess return?
