Purchased a one owner 2001 SAAB 9-3 Base 5 door last year from an old lady. The Clarion cassette radio it came with sounded really horrible. The previous owner didn’t mind. Hard to believe these paper cones and woofers were acceptable in a near luxury car even back in 2001.
Switched out the 4 speakers with new Alpine 6x9 3-way and Infinity 3.5 2-Way for $88 total and the car sounds way, way better. It turned out both my SAAB Malaysia 6x9 rears had dry rotted, so it was worst than factory.
I really like the classic look of the SAAB 900/9-3 dash, so I’m glad the stock radio is fine and it was just the cheap base speakers. I already bought the door amp off eBay for $30, so I may add the door speakers one day too.
I ordered the MapTun Stage 2 and will be adding that next. Really enjoying the car so far. This is my 4th SAAB. I owned the original 1994 900S and bought it new when it first came out.
