Loose coil spring Posted by SPG Jr [Email] (#1830) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SPG Jr) on Thu, 27 Jun 2019 07:40:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2000 Viggen, 140k.
Recently refreshed Koni struts, mounts, bearings, bump stops, spring discs and spacers. Only thing I did not renew on the strut housing/steering knuckle was the springs. Springs are Eibachs I think, installed by a PO probably 60k ago and seemed solid (having recently replaced a broken coil on our ‘10 9-3). This refresh, gratifyingly, eliminated a few knocks and pops.
One noise did continue on the right side, heard/felt when turning wheel at stop or low speed. I’ve traced it to the coil being a little loose. With car lifted, I can grab the coil and turn it side to side 5mm or so, without the knuckle turning. Left side coil has no play or noise. Strut nut was torqued to spec (65 lb ft if I recall)
I hesitate to tighten the strut nut much more but I don’t know what else could be adjusted to get the spring tight between upper mount and lower seat.
TIA for suggestions.
