Odd tri-wing fasteners on side impact sensor Posted by NCCaniac [Email] (#352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCCaniac) on Sat, 13 Jun 2020 18:00:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I finally found the the side impact sensor in the driver side door (see earlier thread), but while the 9-5 has it held in with bolts (according to the 9-5 Haynes manual...not mentioned at all in the OG 9-3 manual), the two fasteners holding it are tri-wing screws (like the Mercedes logo) that were screwed into some nylon bushing that expands outward on the other side of the hole to hold the sensor in place. I will pick up some tri-wing bits tomorrow to remove those screws, but I expect after 20 years the nylon bushings will break meaning I will need to use some other type of fastener to install the new sensor.
I checked eEuroparts and other Saab sites and could not find that type of fastener (apparently it is referred to as security/anti-tamper fastener). Do I have to use the same kind? If so, where do you find them? If not, what other type of fastener should I use? It obviously has to hold the sensor in place very firmly as I expect if it jostles around it could set off the airbag.
