The battery in my 2000 Viggen 'vert would barely start the car two weeks ago, both before and after a 25 mile drive. I have a BatteryTender for winter time use so I connected it while the car was parked in the garage.
Solid Red light for 2 days - Seemed like an excessive time period.
Flashing Green Light for one day - correct sequence but again, a long period.
Solid Green light for days - exactly what I expected.
Flashing Green Light again - Whoa! This isn't suppossed to happen.
Solid Green light - OK, this is normal again.
Solid Red Light - Time to shut down and replace tha battery. Obviously something major is amiss.
The owners manual does not identify the battery size! Various battery sources identify it as a Group H5 or Group 47 since both are the same physical size. I removed the battery from my car to take it to the store to avoid the core charge and subsequent credit game. At the store the clerk noticed I was trading in a Group 96R battery and had a Group 47 in my cart..
The Group 96R is the samd depth and length as the 47/H5 battery. The difference is a 5/8 inch shorter height for the 96R, only 600CCA versus 650CCA for the Group 47/H5 size, and a $15 cheaper price for the 96R buying same make and model of battery.
Owners who drive their cars in cold weather may want to purchase the higher CCA Group 47/H5 battery. Owners like me who only drive their cars in warm weather may not need the additional Cold Cranking capability and can save $15 at battery purchase time.
