It's quite common that the transmission casing is "sweating" between the two main housings. It is a full tear down of the transmission to fix so it would have to be really bad before I would suggest a repair like that.

But I can see a shop working on those kind of cars not having a problem suggesting a $3000.00-4000.00 repair without batting an eye and also a customer base refusing to have any oil drops on the floor.
