my rule of thumb is to look at the hose around the clamps. If it's starting to bulge, it's time to start thinking about replacing. That lower hose is probably worth getting to, there is a lot of heat there with the turbo. Lots of cursing and scrapes on my forearm working down there. The intercooler hose is right there, doesn't leave much room to work. I usually move the P/S hose and remove the intake plumbing. I've been happy with the DO88 silicone hose set, should be a little more durable and less prone to expansion. Unless that old hose has been in an hot attic or something, it should be fine. But if you're concerned, a new one is maybe $20.
