THAT was IT - so simple I overlooked it - The horn wasn't working either right before and I didn't connect the dots - I had found the fuse blown for the horn, replaced that and works but didn't even think to check the damn TCM fuse(6A)... 7.5A later and trans is fine - so it was running a base mechanical mode for the transmission because the TCM wasn't powered up - strange that R lit up, but doesn't matter I'll rescan with the 123 and see if it can read the transmission module in the menu now , I suspect that was why it didn't read as well - THANKS Bernie, this site continues to be an invaluable sound board for questions that you just can't get this readily anywhere else...
