A couple of years ago the fan resistor fried itself on my 1996 900 turbo and I couldn’t find a replacement. There was a suggestion for the resistance needed, but it seemed way too high. I calculated what I thought would cut the fan speed in half (cutting the voltage from around 12 volts to 6). I figured the power the fan used would go down with the cube of the speed reduction. Putting that together indicated a resistor of about 1.4 ohms. And I ended up buying a 1.5 ohm 50 watt resistor Rierdon 696-1466-ND from Digi-Key I think. Putting that in got me about 4 volts on the fan instead my goal of 6 volts, but I figured that was close enough. I didn’t mention this at the time because I wanted to make sure things would go okay over time. And they have.
