Always keep tools and spare parts in case of a breakdown, because it may occur on a weekend or where nobody but you can or wants to fix it. Also keep the car in great mechanical condition, and have at least minimum AAA membership to get a tow. Also have a smart phone, tablet, or notebook to lookup Saabnet Mechanics Listings.
The following is a list of spare parts for NG900/OG93) worth having on a trip. Feel free to add/comment on this:
New fuel pump
New fuel filter and 2-12mm and 2-14mm rubber bonded (dowty) seals
Correct length serpentine belt and ribbed idler pulley
Correct length A/C compressor delete belt
Direct ignition cassette (red or black as appropriate) if turbo model
4 new properly gapped correct spark plugs
Engine thermostat with rubber gasket
Fluids: oil, antifreeze, power steering fluid, unopened DOT4 brake fluid, window washer fluid
Good, inflated spare or donut tire
Couple lug nuts
Headlight bulbs, brake light bulbs, turn signal bulbs
Winter survival kit if traveling in winter (google "winter car survival kit")
Tools to carry out these repairs.
If the car's mechanical condition is doubtful, rent a car or take public transportation.
If this has been covered elsewhere on Saabnet, I'll just post a re-direct to earlier post.
