Well, all these 25 cent engineers needs a job too.
I haven't figured out why they needed such an intricate design over the old 900 one.
It might be that the tab that the spring eyelet is needed to wrap around has broken off allowing the spring to come loose or as you say, someone might have butchered it earlier pulling the spring out of tension.
When valet parking aids break the reverse lockout because they don't know the Saab trick to remove key, that ball socket needs to come out to insert a new reverse lockout piece in place.
