Been trying to post info to help you but, with or without links, the "spam filter" is preventing them from posting. I'm not sure what content is tripping this but it's quite frustrating for a site intended for information sharing. Anyway...

You are the best source for this type of repair. I did it myself 6 yrs/30k ago and it's holding up fine.

Look up fan resistor threads on this page (links may be tripping this overly sensitive filter?) That's where I got all the info to do this job. There will be a link to an external w i k i page with step by step instructions and specs for the resistor(s) you need. Mouser has a unit like the ones I used. Get the thermal paste described on one of the threads.
