If the crankshaft position sensor is not working, the ECU will not know when to operate the injectors or the ignition. That is what it is for.
The resistance on it is 540 ohms, +/- 55 ohmns. So you can check to see if it has an open circuit. Check across pins 1&2.
It is located on the front of the block, near the bell housing. One torx screw and an o-ring.
Follow the wires to the connector near the thermostat. Check connector for seating and the condition of the contacts etc. Check for dammage to the wiring as well.
There should be a check engine light and a trouble code that identifies this sensor if it is not working. You probably need a dealer to read the codes. You can read some of these.
When you switch on the ignition, and the check engine light comes on, don't try to start. You may get two three second long flashes, followed by some short duration pulse sequences. Count the pulses, these are fault codes. There could be more than one.
2 map sensor
3 inlet air temp sensor
4 coolant sensor
5 throttle position sensor
6 lamba sensor (aka O2 sensor)
7 adaption fault
8 evaporative loos purge valve
9 ecu fault
No code for the crank sensor that I know of, bet there is one. But perhaps one of those items that require dealer gismo access.
