I missed this thread!

I have the K&N, modified air box, remove turbo discharge silencer, moved pressure port from the compressor housing to the throttle body (above the throttle plate), Saab Sports exhaust, viggen rescue kit, modfied throttle body transistion casting, insulated the turbo plumbing, boost controller.

Wish list: Viggen IC

There are pics for the casting rework, search for that thread.

The Abbott ECU and others are great, but my mods are constrained by the need to be affordable.

If you don't want to shorten the life of components, don't drive your vehicle! The boost controller creates less torque than Abbott, so the stresses are lower. Other changes decrease flow resistance, and lower thermal loads and allow the turbo to be more responsive. Don't worry about componet life. Clutches will slip if they are worn, and the wear if your clutch and shifting habits are abusive. If you power launch, then there is a lot of clutch wear.

There always is a chance that something will fail. Most likely if something fails, it was going to fail, mods or not.

An external boost controller will greatly reduce Saab's built in turbo lag. Turbo throttle response is very non linear! Saab tried to eliminate that. The controller makes 2nd gear wild, and first gear requires a very careful throttle action to avoid wheel spin. No point in trashing tires!

I am currently running about 13 or 14 PSI of boost, and I will be tuning that up a bit in the warmer weather. I have some ideas on how to avoid some of the boost overshoot that can hit the fuel cut pressure limit, especially in cold weather.

If you use a boost controller, and set it to achieve the same boost as stock, you would find that your vehicle would be much more responsive and much faster. With higher pressure, the grin just gets wider. If you can afford to get a good ECU mod, do it. First gear will be much more controllable, and you will have far greater power.

If you go for higher boost pressures, you need good traction. Select tires that have good traction. I have original shocks and springs. If my shock every wear out, I will get the Koni's. There are lots of changes you can do to springs and sway bars to improve traction at launch and for cornering.

My driving style is conservative. So my needs and expectations will be different from many others on this BB.
