Rip-off?? Necessary?? Posted by Ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ryan) on Tue, 22 May 2001 01:12:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just had the 75K service done on my '95 900 S Convertible (2.3L 4). I bought the car at 60K miles for $12,900 (plus 5 yr loan interest = $16,300 total). I'm hoping this was a good price. Dealer were selling same make and year for $16,900
Anyway, the car has been very noisy. I had both idler pulley's replaced. When the engine runs without the serpentine belt it is STILL noisy. My mechanic tells me the timing chain and/or balance chains need replaced. This should be unusual at my mileage (and the mechanic even noted so).
Also, there is some leaking from the engine block. Very minor. Not enough to leave marks on the driveway, but nonetheless slight spillage on the mid-lower part of block in two locations. I'm told the head gasket needs replaced to solve this problem. Mechanic recommended the repair to proactively curb a potentially bigger problem down the road.
Total estimate for both repairs is $1,500 - $1,750.
What are your thoughts??
Thanks,
Ryan
