This information is from a gent named Sean Costall on the Talon Digest. I put a 2.5" press bent system on my Talon with one of the Super Turbo mufflers listed below and was impressed by how quiet the car was. It sounded just a bit deeper than stock and a bit louder outside, but definitely no drone and no resonances. Your mileage may vary of course, but before you ditch your system, you may wish to try one of the 3" mufflers.
Cheers

No, this is not yet another plea for an answer to the question
"Which muffler is quieter - the Super Turbo or the Ultraflow?" which
comes up now and again. I just wanted to point something out, since I've
never actually seen this on the Digest.

There are >several models< of both the Dynomax Super Turbo and
the Ultraflow. These models differ in a number of characteristics,
including: connector size, connector location, material construction AND
INTERNAL DIAMETER.

Here are the specifications that I collected (Thanks, Farzaan!)
before I got my exhaust done up:

Name Part Number Connector size Internal size Comment
Ultraflow 17296 3 inches 3 inches Stainless steel
Super Turbo 17793 3 inches 3 inches
Super Turbo 17774 3 inches 3 inches Stainless steel
Super Turbo 17744 3 inches 2.5 inches

There are undoubtedly more models than I have. I don't know the
placement of the inlet/outlet on any of these models, aside from the fact
that they all fit 1st gen AWD cars. I also can't comment on how loud
they are from personal experience.

When I got my car fitted last summer, I was quoted about $100 for
the #17793 muf, and about $50 more for the stainless steel 17774.
(Canadian funds, eh.)

I have the #17793 with 3" pipe that the muffler shop did for me,
and it is fairly quiet. Especially compared with the airplane-like noise
of another local Talon. ;-) If you are getting a shop to install for
you, I would advise you check how much it costs for a custom set of pipes
as compared to a "name-brand" set from someone like Borla or HK$.

I have been told that the above listed Ultraflow is very loud
compared to the other units, on a 1 gen. AWD with 3" catless pipe, 2.5"
downpipe and a ported exhaust manifold. My car has 3" pipe from the
downpipe back (not cat-back, I have no cat) and I am very happy with the
performance/noise of the system.
