The reinforcement kit for the tonneau motor was a couple of brackets that connect the motor to the mounting plate so it doesn't twist under stress. To inspect it, you'll have to remove the trim on the passenger side of the trunk (just the side). You'll see a black metal plate under there. The motor assembly is mounted to the other side of the plate, between it and the inside of the fender.
You might be able to do this by feel: the motor has a tear-drop shaped aluminum housing, and it attaches to the tonneau gearbox at a pivot point that looks like a door hinge. Feel around for the pin that connects the two halves of this hinge. Attached to either end of the pin, there should be an "L" shaped brass bracket (only about 1" in size) that's screwed into the black mounting plate. So, one face of the L is a hole where end of the pin goes through, and the other side is where the screw into the mounting plate goes through.
If the brackets aren't there, you're missing the kit, and each time the tonneau goes up, it stresses the hinge point and potentially twists it. Why they felt they had to hinge the motor, I don't know--it actually allows you to release the tonneau manually, but it seems pretty silly since it's so vulnerable.
