If the O2 sensor went bad and the engine went into limp home mode, it can sometimes not get out of that rut. That happened to me with a vac leak to the absolute manifold pressure sensor. They also detected a problem with the O2 sensor having too much resistance. The O2 sensor ground is via the exhaust pipe and turbo etc. They had everything sorted out, but had to reset the ECU to get it out of limp home mode. You can remove the battery ground for a few minutes to do this, but you will need to reset your radio code. (they backed out the O2, cleaned the threads and contact faces and reseated)
If you are getting poor gas mileage, then that is a sign of the ecu in a limp mode. If you have everything fixed and are getting good performance and fuel consumption, then the fault may clear it self, as many do, after a certain number of start-stop cycles which can take a few days.
