I, too, purchased my '95 900se (V6) at 56,000. I'm still beating myself over the head for not purchasing the available extended warranty. 5,000 miles later I had to have some major work done on the vehicle that would have more than paid for the warranty. And that was just the beginning.

I'm in the process of having my Saab dealer/mechanic send me a list of the various problems I've had them fix since I purchased the car in 1999. I just dropped $3,000 to fix a broken timing belt (I'm still negotiating with my Saab mechanic on this -- apparently nobody there ever took notice that there hadn't been a timing belt change since 35K, even though I'd had it in on NUMEROUS occasions, even after the 65K mark. Even at 93K, they didn't replace.) Just yesterday, my a/c has been blowing hot air -- if it's an evaporator core problem, I'm looking at another $1,500. Other items that have been beyond my control are things like the information display panel going bad (they want $700), and a host of others that I'll be reminded of when I recieve the information from Saab.

There are thousands of loyal Saab owners out there who have but the slightest problems with their cars. I can't tell you how many over the years have issued the much-repeated adage: "I've got over 200,000 miles and have only had the oil changed."

You might never have a problem for as long as you own your car. Just follow these two bits of advice, though: only have it serviced by a certified Saab mechanic and make sure you've got plenty of reserves in your bank account.
