As some of you know I was resisting new shocks for a long time, and yes the cost was a major factor.
I used to run 38 psi front, 35 rear. Then my suspension started to get nasty and I was back to 33 & 33. The old shocks from 115000 miles through 130000 miles were jarring and was hitting the bump stops. But the old shocks never seemed to produce bouncing or other problems that I used to associate with bad shocks. The old shocks still had 'resistance' when they came out, and none showed any signs of oil leakage. My old shocks lasted a long time and died slowly. Others have reported very differnet results on the stock springs.
I went through some rapid lane change instabilities caused by body roll and steering geometry coupling. That was probably more noticable with the Viggen rescue kit and might not have been so obvious with a stock front end.
I put on a rear sway bar as an inexpensive test. It fixed the body roll induced steering problems and confirmed my suspicions that the shocks were allowing body roll, or rates of body roll that produced nasty steering dynamics.
So the Koni's are a huge improvement. The ride is great now, and I have taken the pressure up to 38 & 35. Steering response seems better too, even with the sway bar already in.
I have the front and read shocks adjusted to 1/2 turn above full soft.
