Completely different car. Don't expect to ever DIY taking the engine out. You can't unless you have a lift in your garage. Mechanically it is much more like the 9000 than the C900. Serpentine belt instead of individual belts for the accessories. Still a timing chain, though, thank God! Turbo is right in the front between the block and radiator. Very easy to get to. The BPV is right at the top behind the radiator to the right (as you face the engine bay, to the left when seated in the car...).

There's not a lot you'll have to work on, IMHO. With the Trionic, all the controls are now computerized. If you plan on modding it ever, there's the ECU, the BPV, the exhaust, and maybe the intercooler and intake. That's about it, and you can get some pretty amazing results. (I'm nearly 240 hp now...). Contrary to Sheamus, I don't think the turbo is complicated at all. Saab's worked out any complexity long ago. They know what their doing -- afterall, they've done it since '78...

The clutch pre-'98 is cable type and can be a PITA. Saab reverted to hydraulic in '98. If you get a '97 or earlier, be sure to keep the cable greased with white lithium grease. Also my '97 had the input shaft of the manual transmission seal go bad. When replacing I went ahead and did the clutch and cable as preventative maintenance.

The only other thing that went bad (asside from a nephew killing the passenger power seat, [rotten kid! -- I take that back, good kid, just goofing around too much...]) was a bad external t-stat for the ACC. $.98 part, but took $250 worth of labor to track it down -- DOH!!!

I think that pretty much covers it. I love the car, but still wish I had my C900's or 99's. Different cars, but I like them both/all.
