I thought you'd like reading about Saab touting the very features that have caused you (and many others here) both frustration and a good deal of money. They make a big deal about the quality of all these "features" (rubber bits, strut brace, rack on firewall) when, in fact, they represent a general decline in precision from previous Saab cars. A trade-off certainly made in the interests of refinement (not to mention GM-style economy), but sacrificed too much control.

I've really noticed the difference between my rear axle and the 9-3's. The 9000 Aero has a solid tube rear axle and a 19mm sway bars front and rear. The car is noticably more neutral, but it doesn't take much to end up with oversteer -- good for pulling donuts in gravel parking lots but probably not as good in winter. We shall see. Maybe TCS will do something other than keep me from accelerating quickly...

I'm amazed at these '94 design flaws you're talking about. I suppose that gives one reason why the NG900/9-3 platform has aged so poorly. I doubt that there was as much complaint about the 12 year old 9000 platform when it was replaced, let alone the 25 year old 99/C900.

Good to hear you're getting used to your "new" car. This is always an interesting (fun) process. This summer, I helped a friend put a set of KYB AGX (adjustable gas shocks) on his '00 Impreza 2.5RS. He has other mods, but these made the biggest difference by far. I think he's still finding the limits of the car. I couldn't believe how well it handled. The WRX pales in comparison in all respects but acceleration. Amazing what a few thousand dollars can do...makes you wonder why the factory doesn't wise up to some of these aftermarket modifications. By the way, the AGX's are adjustable front and rear -- the rears are controlled by a dial on the inboard side of the lower end of the strut. You get a little dirty changing it on the fly, but it's better than removing the entire assembly. Why can't Koni do that?
