MW, thanks for the advice on how to open up the CDC635. I followed your instructions and got the CD unstuck and the unit works fine. As a gesture of thanks to you and the saabnet folks, I have written up a more detailed list of instructions that might make the job a bit easier for anyone else (esp. non-techies) who has the same problem.

1. The CD unit is held in place with wingnuts, two on each side. Just unscrew those and unplug the power cable on the left side (toward the rear of the car) and you can remove the unit from the car by lifting it up off of the four posts that hold it to the car body.
2. You'll want to have a clean work space like a kitchen table or a garage on which to work on the unit. I suggest laying down some newspaper because there may be a bit of grease on the bracket screws or on the springs inside of the unit. I also suggest having a cup handy for storing the screws as you pull them off of the unit.
3. You'll notice that two metal brackets are connected to the unit. These are what hold the unit onto the car body. Remove both of these.
4. The unit is covered by a two-piece metal cover, and on top there is a plastic trim cover. You'll notice that one of the two metal cover pieces is larger than the other. The LARGER cover piece is the one you want to remove. Unscrew the four screws holding the larger cover piece. These screws are pretty small, so be careful to store these in a cup so you can find them easily later.
5. You'll notice that there are one or two notches in the seam between the two parts of the metal cover. Insert a flathead screwdriver into each of these notches and gently pry the two covers apart by rotating the screwdriver. Repeat at each notch until the cover pops off. As the large cover comes all the way off, the plastic trim piece on the top of the unit will also pop off.
6. Take a look inside the unit and you'll probably notice one of your compact discs extended in the "Play" position. You'll also notice that right above the disc there is a metal piece whose center corresponds with the center hole of the disc. On the other side of this metal piece is a piece of metal or plastic (which you can't see) that holds the CD into place when it's playing.
7. Take a small flathead screwdriver and very gently lever the metal piece up off of the disc. As you're doing that, take another screwdriver and VERY gently push the edge of the disc so that the disc slides back toward the black plastic CD holder. Be sure not to push too hard or else the screwdriver might slip off of the disc and damage some of the delicate electronics inside of the unit. As long as you've got the metal piece levered up a bit, it should be pretty easy to scoot the disc back into the holder.
8. Once you've got the disc pushed back into the holder, you're pretty much done. Just snap the metal cover back onto the unit and screw it on. Then GENTLY snap the top plastic cover back on. Its not completely intuitive how the plastic cover slips back on, but start with one side and then use a flathead screwdriver to pop the tabs on the other side into place one by one.
9. Screw the metal holding brackets back onto the CD unit and take it back to your car. Slide the metal brackets back onto the post and attach the wing nuts. Plug in the power cable.
10. Open the door of the unit and press the EJECT button. The disc holder should eject. Examine each disc to make sure they're inserted face up. I took out the disc that was originally stuck, just in case there might be a problem with the disc. Reinsert the disc holder. The unit should cycle through each disc just like it normally does.
11. Turn on your stereo, hit the CD button, cross your fingers, and say "C'monnnnnn". My CD unit worked fine when I tested it.
